The Code Enforcement Department responds to illegal and/or non-permitted signs and banners. Businesses are required to obtain sign and banner permits from the Community Development Department prior to installation.

Property Maintenance is also a required component for business owners. Business owners are required to maintain their building or suite at all times. Property maintenance includes exterior landscaping, paint, and signs. Interior components include doors, flooring, plumbing, and electrical.

Residential Properties
The City takes pride in providing a safe and beautiful community for our residents. The City Council adopted codes to regulate the use and maintenance of private properties.

The Code Enforcement Department implements the Grand Terrace Municipal Code to ensure compliance and to maintain the neighborhoods and quality of life in Grand Terrace.
Items that may deter from a neighborhood are generally classified as a public nuisance. A few examples of public nuisances are:

  • Inoperable vehicles parked/stored on a property in public view.
  • Accumulation of trash, lumber, junk, debris stored on a property.
  • Construction equipment, supplies, materials, and machinery.
  • Unpainted buildings or excessive checking, cracking, or peeling paint.
  • Vehicles parked on unimproved surfaces.

Recreational Vehicles
Code Enforcement receives complaints from residents concerning both motorized, non-motorized vehicles, and trailers parking for long periods of time on the city streets and the safety/visual impact they have on a neighborhood.

The City of Grand Terrace adopted the Recreational Vehicle/Utility Trailer ordinance in May, 2004. The purpose of the ordinance was to increase visibility and safety for all motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclist in addition to preserving the beauty of each neighborhood. Parking on city streets and storage of RV/Utility Trailers on residential properties is defined in the Grand Terrace Municipal Code.

The Code Enforcement Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department issue citations for all RV/Utility Trailer parking violations on City Streets. The Code Enforcement Department responds to complaints regarding RV/Utility Trailer parking/storage issues on residential properties.
